About the Trainer

Cristiana LaGioia has shared her life with animals in need since she was 6 years old.  She's been training and tending dogs and horses throughout her life (as well as more than a few cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, etc.) A life passion has been and remains helping animals who needed a home, or temporary care.  For 5 years in Richmond, VA she volunteered with HAPPE Pets, helping to select adoptable dogs from the county shelter, and then training them in basic obedience to give them a head start in their new homes. Expanding on this rewarding work was an inspiration for Safe Harbor Dog Training.

Cristiana is always expanding her knowledge and has gone to numerous classes, seminars, and training events with nationally-known dog trainer and author Sarah Wilson.  Her goal is to find the best methods to help you and your dog succeed.  Cristiana is an Associate member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).

At Safe Harbor, training is a mutually enjoyable experience.  Games and exercises focus on clarity through fun. Your dog will learn, his tail will just be wagging while he does. Calm clarity and shameless fun are the foundations of the program. A trained dog is an easier companion, a happier dog and a safer pet.

Cristiana currently shares her home with one Whippet, Nenya and two cats, Nellie and Laura - all of them rescues.
All shelters and rescues have wish lists of items they need.  Check your local group's lists and donate if you can!
One size does not fit all when it comes to dog training.  Every dog is an individual, and I will focus on what works best for YOUR dog
